Read Write Inc. Phonics teaches children to read accurately and fluently with good comprehension. Our dynamic Ruth Miskin trainers demonstrate the activities step-by-step, using footage of real lessons. They help you practise and prepare before teaching and use management strategies to engage children and speed up progress. New blended packages combine the online training subscription with face-to-face training.

We have made films about everything we do, from how to teach Speed Sounds to setting up the best book corners. You can now have access to our content all year round, for staff training, practice sessions, staff meetings and preparation at home.

Face-to-Face Training

We show your staff step by step how to teach reading from the moment a child steps into your school – whatever their age.

A Read Write Inc. trainer can come to your school to train your staff. These 2-day sessions can have up to 45 people attending, depending on government advice, and health and safety restrictions at the time.

We also have a number of Open Training Events scheduled for 2024, where you can book a place for one or more educators. Please see the dates listed below.

Online Training

For the optimal experience for schools, our preferred training mode is face-to-face, however we also offer Online training days. Sessions are led by a Read Write Inc. trainer, with opportunity to connect and interact with other educators.

From Sounds to Stories	$190	For the reading leader and F/Y1 teacher. Accelerate children’s progress from sound-blending words to reading short stories.	2nd May 19th June 7th August
Getting to Grips with Graphemes	$190	For the reading leader and Y1 teacher. Make sure every child can read accurately and succeed in the phonics screening check.	29th July 12th August
Fluent Readers	$190	For the reading leader and Y2 teacher. Increase children’s accuracy and automaticity in word reading and teach the activities in Yellow, Blue and Grey groups.	6th February 7th May 4th September 17th October

Day 1 training content:

Speed Sounds Set 1
Word Time lessons – reading and spelling
Speed Sounds Sets 2 and 3
(3.15pm) Extra session: Senior Leadership team meeting (assessment, grouping, implementation and support)

Timings: 9am to 3:45pm

Day 2 training content:

Reading activities – reading to build accuracy, speed and comprehension
Writing activities – spelling words, writing sentences and writing composition

Timings: 9am to 3:15pm

Day 1 agenda

This session is a leadership meeting to discuss assessment and grouping, one-to-one tutoring, and implementation and support.

Hayley Goldsworthy

Consultant trainer

Hayley is the consultant trainer for Ruth Miskin Training in Australia. She has over 10 years of teaching experience in both Australia and the United Kingdom. During her teaching career in the UK, Hayley was the Head of Early Years in a primary school in London. She has witnessed first-hand how Read Write Inc. is able to successfully and quickly get children reading and writing. Hayley is passionate about sharing Read Write Inc. throughout Australia.

Robert Simpson

Freelance consultant trainer

Robert is a freelance trainer for Ruth Miskin Training in Australia. He is currently an Assistant Principal in a busy primary school in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne and has been a primary school teacher for more than 25 years. He taught for 15 years in the UK before moving to Australia in 2009. He has been using Read Write Inc. for the last 12 years and is passionate about the role it can play in achieving the goal of teaching every Australian child to read.
