Rescue struggling readers aged 11–13
Read Write Inc. Fresh Start is a catch-up and intervention programme, with proven results, for 11–13-year-old struggling readers. Developed by Ruth Miskin, Read Write Inc. Fresh Start uses a proven phonics-based approach that enables older students to catch up with reading and access the secondary curriculum quickly.
The high-interest, age-appropriate reading resources accelerate students' progress and teachers are supported with comprehensive guidance and lesson plans.
Program Components
34 Modules provide practice in the sounds and graphemes taught in the phonics lessons. The texts are carefully matched to the students’ phonic level. Students read and discuss the text several times, developing comprehension and fluency.
Each Module also contains a range of activities which develop spelling, punctuation and writing answers to comprehension questions.
- Clear, step-by-step activities build skills and confidence
- Each module contains a fiction or non-fiction text
Seven vibrant and compelling Anthologies in an engaging magazine-style format, provide even more opportunity for phonic practice, at home and at school.
- Includes contemporary stories, non-fiction texts, quizzes, comic strips and poems engaging reluctant readers
- Texts are linked to the modules, providing extra practice for the focus sounds
- Texts are the perfect length to build reading stamina
